Like most people who have allowed a dog or cat into their heart and lost that pet, you considered your four-legged friend to be family. The loss has been heartbreaking and obviously replacing your special friend is impossible but keeping their memory alive can be easy. Fortunately there are many ways you can do this. Continue reading if you would like to gain some ideas on ways you can memorialize the memory of your special feline or canine companion.
Donate to an animal charity
One way to keep Fido or Fluffy’s memory alive is to donate to a favorite animal charity or charities. That way you know something great is being done in the name of your pet to better the lives of other cats or dogs. Donating money, toys, and food, among other items, is an excellent way to honor the memory of your pet and a way you can truly feel good about.
Memorial garden
If you have a green thumb, love flowers or enjoyed spending time with your pet in the yard, then why not memorialize this special space with a garden in honor of your departed friend? Plant your favorite flowers, use pretty stones, statues or add a bench to a spot in your yard to create a beautiful and serene space where you can go to think about your friend. One woman who lost her beloved Yorkie terrier, Bruce, adds a new plant or flower each year on Bruce’s birthday to keep his memory alive.
Have a funeral
Humans are not the only ones who can have a funeral or memorial service. Your beloved pet can have one to. You can create an event as little or as big as you like to celebrate the life of that special pet. Invite dog or cat friends and share pictures and videos of your four-legged friend. You may choose to speak or have others speak to eulogize your buddy. You might even choose to provide refreshments to guests as well. During this hard time you can choose any number of ways to remember that special family member.
Write an obituary
Words can’t always express how deeply you may be feeling the loss of your canine or feline companion but if the written words is how you like to share your thoughts and feelings you may decide that you would like to write an obituary on the parting of your friend. There are newspaper and online sites that allow and encourage you to share an obituary for deceased animal family members.
Fine art
Photographs are not the only way to capture the image of a special friend. Why not commission an artist to create a portrait of your dearly departed pet? Today, many grieving families are deciding they too want to be able to share a special moment in their pet’s life via a specially created drawing or painting. Many artists can create your special piece of art from a photograph of your pet.
The loss of a beloved pet is very difficult. Keeping your fond memories alive shouldn’t be. Hopefully these five ideas make memorializing your friend easier.
