Even better, bring your best canine pal with you. To help you begin to fill up your fall activity calendar, here’s a few ideas that we came up with. Keep reading to learn what you and your pooch can do to have fun and keep busy this fall.
Run through the leaves
After you are done sweeping up the yard and have created a nice, deep pile of leaves why not run through them with your favorite canine companion? You might even try hiding some treats and see if your pup can retrieve them. Make sure there is nothing in the leaves that could be harmful to your dog like rocks or pointy sticks.
Enjoy a warm baked treat together
There’s nothing more fun than enjoying a warm, baked treat on a cool fall day. Why not bake up your favorite treat as well as a batch of your pup’s favorite doggie biscuits and enjoy the tasty goodness together. Eating them snuggled up on your favorite couch or on the porch will make this treat even more fun.
Apple picking
Apple picking and cool, sunny fall weather go together perfectly. So why not bring your pooch with you the next time you plan on picking apples to your heart’s content? Many orchards are dog friendly and happy to accommodate you and your pooch as long as Fido is on a leash. Don’t forget to bring extra barrels and buckets and some extra water for your canine pal.
Stay somewhere haunted and dog friendly
With those blustery fall winds comes something just a little bit spooky – black cats, jack-o-lanterns and ghost-filled houses abound as do haunted hotels. Why not plan a weekend get away with your favorite canine friend to a haunted (and dog friendly) hotel? You’ll both get away for the weekend and have some fun. Don’t forget to take in some of the local sites when you reach your hotel destination.
Spooky walking tour
There’s nothing a dog doesn’t like more than a walk so why not make it a spooky walk! Haunted walking tours pop up all over the place during the fall so why not take one with your pooch? Make sure to check with the tour to see if dogs are welcome. Most groups are happy to let a well-behaved leash-trained pooch to join in.
Go on a hike
Take in the many colors fall has to offer while also enjoying some healthy aerobic activity. A hike in the woods or your local forest preserve allows both. Make it even more fun when you bring your beloved dog with you. Remember to bring extra water and poop bags and don’t forget to check and make sure dogs are allowed on your chosen hiking path.
